New Beta Interface For Google AdWords

January 31st, 2009 No comments

Google is offering some of AdWords advertisers a new beta interface to test. Look at the new interface:

adwords_new_beta_interface

As you can see, it shares fair bit of similarity with the charting system of Google Analytics (somewhat similar to Yahoo Sponsored Search interface too).

There are two things that I would like to let you know.

  • It won’t effect the way your ads run.

  • You can always switch back & forth between the new beta & the current interface.

Get Notified Every Time Google Index an Incoming Link to Your Site

January 30th, 2009 No comments

This is just a small trick to get email notification every time Google adds an incoming link to your site. As you know, search term link:www.yourdomain.com returns all the indexed incoming links to your site. So add an alert for this search using Google Alert. Just go there & enter the search term. Select “Type” as “Comprehensive” & “How often” as “as-it-happens”. Now whenever Google index a new incoming link to your site, you will be notified immediately.

This is The Time to Experiment With Adsense for Feeds

January 25th, 2009 No comments

Those who use FeedBurner probably already know that Google is planning to transfer all FeedBurner feeds to their own server by February 29. As you will migrate, your feed will be assigned a new url like http://feeds2.feedburner.com/YourFeeds instead of current http://feeds.feedburner.com/YourFeeds. The good thing is that Google will provide a redirection service for the old feed url as long as possible. So you don’t have to be afraid of loosing your current subscribers.

But as your url change is inevitable, then why don’t you try Adsense for feeds now? Because you don’t have to think whether you should change your feed url or not to show ads. Besides the ad integration is made easy. Go to your Adsense account & click Adsense for Feeds. There you can automatically choose ad integration with a few clicks. There are quite a few options than ad placement & size. So why not experiment a bit? Remember not to put too many ads to annoy your readers.

A Good Theme Becomes Great

January 24th, 2009 No comments

iNove had all the potential of great Wordpress theme. But there was only flaw that I found. It made the comments dofollow by default & most of the users didn’t know it as there was no explicit manual about it. But it seems that the creator has rectified it in the latest release 1.2.3. Now the comments that you make are nofollow as they should be by default.

The dofollow lovers can argue what is so bad if it is dofollow by default. I have nothing against dofollow. But there are more than a few plugins that you can use to control your comments as dofollow quite flexibly. So there is no point for the themes to change what is default, especially without notifying the users.

This free theme has passed all the compatibility & code tests in Themespreview.com with full score & got the ranking of Gold Theme. Here is the screenshot of it:

It is really great as a free Wordpress theme. Download it here.

Can You Sell Your Blogger Blogs

January 22nd, 2009 No comments

First thing first. No you cannot, not at least legally. Whatever way others may show you, it’s not a proper way. Do you want to know why? Simply because it’s against Blogger TOS. Check this part taken out from it:

7. No Resale of the Service. Unless expressly authorized in writing by Google, you agree not to reproduce, duplicate, copy, sell, trade, resell or exploit for any commercial purposes (a) any portion of the Service, (b) use of the Service, or (c) access to the Service.

I don’t think it’s too harsh. Everything belongs to Google after all. You are just using their hosting & subdomain. So as you can see, there is another reason not to use blogspot blogs.

How to Take a Screenshot of Your Computer

January 19th, 2009 No comments

The easiest way to take screenshot of a computer screen is to use Print Screen or Print Screen/SysRq key of your keyboard. It is generally located at the top row of the keyboard right after the F12 key. When you press the key a snapshot of the computer screen gets copied into the clipboard. Now you can paste & save the image in any graphics editing program like MS-Paint or in a word processing program.

If you want to take the screenshot of only the current window then press Alt + Print Screen keys. Isn’t it quite simple :)

A Great Tool For Quick Keyword Research

January 17th, 2009 No comments

While surfing through the net I have found this new released SEO tool that can help you in competitive keyword analysis. And the best thing is that the tool is free. It is called PPC Web Spy. Though you can buy a premium version of it for few extra features, the free version is enough for general purposes.

You can easily find out top keywords under your niche. Look at the below screenshot:

ppc_web_spy_screenshot

After downloading & installing it, you can view & compare popular keywords of top ranking ads under your niche with detailed statistics like Avg. CPC, Max. CPC or Clicks/Day. Even you can sort results by them. So you can enjoy the fruit of their well research & testing in no time.

I have searched with “web hosting” . Then i clicked on the “View Keywords” button of the top sponsored result to see its keyword stats.

So get the keywords that people actually search & visit. The tool does a lot more. You can find a video presentation on the site.
